Peterborough, Saturday 1 March 2008

One of the good things about locating a model show in a large town centre is that you can browse the exhibits at your leisure while your better half engages in some retail therapy. I had originally intended to pop into the show quickly, but I was so amazed by the quality of the exhibits I stayed for over an hour and took a whole load of photos.

The majority of the items on show were military and aircraft, along with some other excellent displays of automobiles and some very nice sci-fi. I was particularly impressed by the quality of some of the dioramas - several of which were like watching a freeze frame from a movie - a real sense of drama and tension captured in the scene. You can see a number of these in the gallery.

Overall the standard of exhibit was very high, though I did find the fragmented layout of Peterborough Town Hall a little hard to navigate, and got lost a few times!

Along with the exhibits were a number of trade stands, mostly selling military items and one or two selling some other rarities and vintage kits which were very interesting. On prominent display on most of the trade stands was the new Airfix Doctor Who kit. Is this destined to be the 'most built kit' of 2008 and will we be seeing even more of these in upcoming shows than the Wallace and Gromit Anti Pesto van..?!

I'll definitely be a regular attendee at future EoE shows - one for the diary!
